Week Ahead: County ethics proposal, Citygate hearing

Posted By on Mon, Jul 8, 2013 at 9:20 AM

The Monroe County Legislature will meet Tuesday night and it’ll take up legislation to update a section of county ethics law.

Democrat Josh Bauroth proposed a measure prohibiting county employees and officials from accepting gifts from anyone doing business with the county. In an introductory memo, Bauroth said that the current law is not clear and could allow an employee to accept a gift worth less than $25.

A Legislature committee unanimously passed the proposal last month.

The Legislature must hold a public hearing before it can vote on the proposal. Tuesday night, Legislators will vote to set that hearing.

The Legislature meets at 6 p.m. at the County Office Building, 39 West Main Street. Jeremy Moule

The City of Rochester Environmental Commission meets Tuesday to consider the Citygate project.

Costello and Son plans to construct a mixed-use development that includes housing, retail including a Costco, office space, and a hotel on a 45-acre site southeast of East Henrietta and Westfall roads — also known as Monroe County’s former Iola campus.

The Environmental Commission reviews projects that would be located within sensitive environmental areas to determine potential impacts on the environment. The commission will ultimately make a recommendation on whether the proposal should be approved, modified, or denied.

Tuesday’s meeting is at 6 p.m. in room 124B — first floor in the “B” building — at City Hall, 30 Church Street. Christine Carrie Fien
